Kindergarten
at the Musical Arts Schoolhouse

Our kindergarten provides a unique balance of
academics and performing art disciplines creating
an ideal learning environment for your child.

Kindergarten:

The Musical Arts Schoolhouse is Frisco's unique premier performing arts Kindergarten! We focus on the development of the whole child and meeting each child's individual needs.

What this means for your child is that the curriculum will be based on their strengths and challenges not the class as a whole. Your child will be learning from a customized workbook based curriculum combining two core educational programs.

Your child will experience a learning environment that is structured but fun through traditional kindergarten academics such as reading, writing, hands on science, history, mathematics and cooking.

Students have an amazing opportunity to experience their kindergarten education in addition to lessons in Music with instruments (including piano), Theatre, Dance, Spanish and Art.

There is a state of the art computer lab with iPads right in the classroom! This will allow students to explore the world of computers through the wide variety of academic applications offered from the iPad.

All of our teachers are professionals in their field. Our kindergarten teacher Mrs. Kerry holds a Texas teaching certification K-12. All performing art teachers hold a degree in either education or their area of artistic discipline.

Teachers also make a one year commitment to our students allowing more consistent expectations and overall learning environment. To learn more about our wonderful team of teachers please visit the Our Staff tab.

Students will be engaged in small group ratios of 1:7 allowing more one on one instruction. In order to incorporate a stronger academic schedule, instead of rotating every hour through the disciplines they will  rotate  2 hours per day to the "performing art specials" on an "A" and "B" weekly schedule.

For example, on "A" weeks they will attend Music & Art on M/ W/ F and Dance & Theatre on T/Th. On "B' weeks they will attend Dance & Theatre on M/W/F and Music & Art on T/Th.

The optional 3 or 5 day kindergarten extended day from 12:30 - 3:45pm is highly recommended and extremely beneficial to students in many ways. This program allows students to become acclimated to the long day of a first grade schedule.

By choosing the extended day parents are able to gently introduce a full day schedule gradually. The extended day offers children a lunch period, down time, academic games, homework round table and one on tutoring as needed.

These are just a few of the incredible advantages students will have while attending the Musical Arts Schoolhouse all inclusive private kindergarten. It is our intent and desire to make sure that we provide students a strong foundation intellectually, socially and emotionally by combining academics through the arts.

A Typical Day:

Students arrive in their kindergarten home room and rotate daily through the following disciplines during the weekly schedule:

Kindergarten: Our unique challenging academic curriculum is developmentally appropriate. We create a fun learning environment by combining mathematics, science with hands on experiments, reading, history, and handwriting with fun games and no-bake cooking!

Music: A combination of instruments (including piano), composer history, creative movement, and songs.

Theatre: Building confidence and imagination with puppetry, poetry, dress up, terminology, public speaking and every child gets a part with our age appropriate skits.

Dance: A unisex program incorporating the techniques of Jazz, tap, hip hop and ballet.

Art: Our advanced art program allows students to learn about famous artists such as Picasso and Jackson Pollack with the use of a wide variety of art mediums beyond tempera paint and crayons. Some of these include sculptures, Mosaics, acrylic paint on canvas, and paper mâchè. Students also learn about art terminology, 2D/3D art, color mixing and so much more!

Our bonus programs include:

Spanish: Students learn the basics of this foreign language through a combination structured academics, activities and fun games weekly.

Computer Technology: Students enjoy a variety of fun educational software including virtual cooking and virtual dress up weekly.

Our students showcase their knowledge of the arts through four major events a year. Our music concerts, art galleries, theatre skits, and dance performances with professional costumes allow families to see what their children are learning at the Musical Arts Schoolhouse!

The Musical Arts Schoolhouse is located at the Frisco School of Music, a premier private music school in the area, at Preston and Main Street in Frisco.

Kerry Douglas: Lead Kindergarten Teacher

Preschool kindergarten readiness teacher at the Musical Arts Schoolhouse

My name is Kerry Douglas. I was born in New York, but grew up in San Antonio.

I attended College in Kerrville at Schreiner University and I hold a Texas Education Degree in general studies EC-4 with a History specialization.

I have been teaching for seven years. I worked in Austin for years and during that time I was a preschool teacher for 3 & 4 year olds. I also spent three years teaching both the 3 year olds and Pre-K classes that integrates special needs with typically developing students.

I moved to Dallas three years ago to be closer to my husband. While living in Dallas, I worked with a special needs school for moderate to severe behaviors for three years.

My hobbies include spending time with my family and friends, traveling as much as possible, cooking and trying new recipes, working out and going to the beach. Recently, I took up deep-sea fishing.

Working with kids and helping them to learn and develop is a passion of mine.

My class is set up as a creative and positive learning and working environment for both the students and staff. Your child will be working on a variety of skills that will help them with kindergarten.
