Benefits of Music in a Child’s Life:
Children ages 4 and 5 year olds will be exploring and playing all types of musical instruments
at an age appropriate level including piano. In addition to learning music terminology and famous
composers of music, we are learning to read music and understand rhythms both internally and with
notation. Playing musical instruments has been shown to increase a child’s mathematic ability.
In our program we learn the rhythmic values of different notes and how to read and count
rhythms. Learning the piano at a young age specifically develops a child’s small motor skills and
helps with basic counting and addition skills.
Our structured movement songs as well as our work with other instruments (like chimes, wood
instruments, bells, shakers, drums, and tone bars) help us work both the large and small muscle
groups while emphasizing rhythm.
Music is incredibly beneficial in the lives of small children and sets them up for success in
the future.
Through music children learn to express themselves as well as different emotions.
A Typical Day:
In music, we devote time each day to a "Hello Song", stationary movement and traveling movement
songs with manipulatives, instrument time, keyboard exploration and skills, then rhythm instrument
time with seasonal themes and coordinated activities that support the dance, art, theatre and
preschool themes.
During the half-day program in Frisco, students rotate through four classrooms that focus on
music, dance, theatre and preschool with art.
Each class time is concentrated on skill building with age appropriate activities, and the
teachers make it fun. The faculty is highly trained in their area of artistic discipline, and have
a genuine love for this age group.
The Musical Arts Schoolhouse is a licensed child-care center and is located at the Frisco School of Music, a premier private music school in the area, at
Preston and Main Street in Frisco.

Candice White: Lead Music
Teacher

My name is Candice White. I was born in Memphis, but grew up in Fort Worth, TX. I received my Bachelor of Arts
in Music degree from the University of Houston, and continued living in Houston for ten years before relocating to
the North Dallas area last summer.
My original career goals were to become a high school band director, but I soon realized I wanted to reach
students at an earlier age. I was lucky to have been very involved with music from a young age, and I think it is
important for children to develop an appreciation for music early on.
My experiences teaching Early Childhood Music have been so fulfilling. I feel so lucky to share my love of music
every day!
In the future, I plan on continuing my studies with a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and Kódaly
certification. I want to continue learning so that I can eventually teach new teachers as an Early Childhood Music
Specialist.
When I am not teaching I enjoy playing on a kickball team, cooking, hiking, reading, yoga and cheering for the
Houston Cougars!
